The delivery lifecycle

Raise a delivery from an order and move it from pending to delivered, knowing what each step does to the order and the stock.

Why: A customer planning production around your goods needs a date and a state they can trust.
What: A delivery is one consignment: goods from one order, to one address, in one window, by one means.
How: It moves through fixed states, and each move saves its trace event, its stock movement and the order's state in one step or not at all.

Raise a delivery

Step 1.
Open /app/route (the Deliveries view) and choose New delivery.
Step 2.
Search the order by its number. Only orders with something outstanding to deliver are offered.
Step 3.
Pick the Means: Carrier, Own run or Collection by customer, then Save.
Step 4.
The draft carries every outstanding line at its outstanding quantity and the order's address. Open it to set the window and add packages.

An order may have several deliveries. With Route on, the Orders area gains a Deliveries view with every order's fulfilment state. Create a delivery on an order that has none raises one by carrier.

The states

Delivered	Returned	On your own run with Stock on, the goods leave the van's stock now. When every line has arrived, the order is fulfilled.
Failed	Rebook	Needs a reason. The failed record stays.
Returned	None	The quantities reverse and the goods come back into stock.

A failed delivery is never edited into a success. Rebook creates a new pending delivery with the same lines and packages, and the failed one stays on the record.

Delivered needs a signature unless the workspace allows unsigned deliveries: see Proof of delivery.

When stock did not hold it

Neither a dispatch nor a delivery from the van is refused for a balance. Each issues what the ledger holds and the drawer names every line that left the building without stock behind it, so the gap is seen rather than hidden.

Documents

The drawer offers Print delivery note, Print packing list and Print collection note; none of them carries a price. Print label on each package prints its own label for scanning.
