Wire EDM
Run the wire EDM module: tip and knife profiles, erode orders, a queue with modelled wire times and the discs tracked as stock.
The wire EDM module is the screen at a wire erosion machine. It was built for PCD tooling, where the work is cutting tips and knife blanks out of diamond discs and eroding finished profiles, and it holds the same four things every Machinist module holds: the parts, the stock, the queue and the run.
The five views
Shop, Parts, Orders, Erode and Setup. The toolbar names the module you are in, the view you are on and the counts that matter wherever you stand: parts waiting to be eroded and disc stock lines below their threshold, each one a link into the view that clears it.
Parts
A part is a profile to erode. It arrives three ways: from a designed product, where the Design Engineer has already worked out the tip or knife form; from a DXF path; or from entered dimensions. Each part carries the material and the layer it is cut from, which is what the time model needs.
Orders and the queue
An erode order collects profiles and quantities for one customer. Queuing an order against a machine gives it a modelled wire time from the erosion chart, so the shop can see what the week holds rather than guessing. A line the chart cannot cover has no modelled time and says so, and a run with any unestimable line carries no total rather than a partial one.
Stock
PCD discs and carbide blanks are stock lines with their real dimensions: usable diameter, thickness and diamond layer for a disc, and width, height and thickness for a blank. Completing a run books the discs out. If a run consumes more than is held, the completion writes an honest shortfall line rather than clamping the number to zero.
The erosion chart
Setup holds the erosion chart: modelled wire feed per diamond layer, plus the start and thread time. PCD erodes slowly and these are starting values to calibrate against your own machine, never a promise. The estimate abstains beyond the thickest charted layer rather than extrapolating.
Where the work comes from
A designed product with connected stock raises its own production order when the sales order is committed, so a PCD saw blade sold through a quote arrives here as profiles to erode with nothing retyped. See Stock modes and the machine bridge.
