Quote a special endmill

Take a special endmill enquiry from the email it arrived in to a quote with the designed tool on it.

Why
A special endmill quote needs the rod, the grinding and the coating worked out before anyone can reply.
How
Send the enquiry at /app, check what was read, then create the quote from the draft.

Before you start

  • The solid carbide endmill design module arrives with the Solid round tools or Solid carbide tool making preset. If it is not in the workbench's Switch design module list, turn one on in /app/settings/presets.
  • It runs on every plan, Free included. Saved designs and exports are capped by plan: see The workbench.
  • Until you set your own rates it prices from example rates and says so on the price. See Rates, stock and the machine bridge.

Send the enquiry

  1. Step 1.

Open /app and choose Request. Paste the enquiry, or attach the email as EML or MSG, a PDF drawing or a DXF of the form.

  2. Step 2.

Press Send message. With an inbox connected, the email agent turns an enquiry that arrives there into the same request.

What AEI reads and cites

Each line is set out with its sizes, grade, coating and quantity. A line read as a special endmill is configured in the design module inside the same answer; on any other line read as made to specification, press Design this line.

  • AI set beside a value opens why it was set, with the words from the enquiry behind it.
  • From the DXF marks a value taken from an attached form drawing.
  • Values read off a drawing image are listed under Read off the drawing image for you to confirm.
  • A value the enquiry does not state shows as the design module's default. If nothing can be grounded, nothing is configured and the card says so.

Check the design in the answer

The Design result card shows the tool as a drawing and a 3D model, the Configured price with The working behind each line, and the checks.

  • Stock that covers this size lists the rod from your stock that can make the tool, matched on the largest ground diameter, with its yield. Nothing in stock covers this size means no rod on your list is big enough.
  • The grinding is priced pass by pass: flute grinding, gashing and end teeth, relief and any corner or form, then the coating.
  • A blocking issue is a tool that cannot be made as configured, such as a corner radius larger than half the cutting diameter or a form longer than the length of cut. It stops every export until it is fixed.

Open it in the workbench

  1. Step 1.

Press Open in the workbench. The tool opens at /app/design/solid-carbide-endmills on the values from the answer.

  2. Step 2.

Change any parameter and the model, the checks and the price follow as you type. A blocking check shows under Resolve before exporting.

  3. Step 3.

Open Materials and cutting list to see the rod: each item reads Covers the size or Too small for this size. Load your own rod first, as Stock matching sets out.

  4. Step 4.

Name it and choose Save as a designed product so the Sales Engineer can quote the next enquiry for the same tool from it. Saving needs the engineer role.

The drawing and the spec sheet

On the card, Spec sheet and Cutting list produce the documents straight away. In the workbench, Documents and exports adds the DXF, STL, GLB and STEP.

OutputWhat it holds
Spec sheet PDFThe dimensioned tool drawing, every parameter, the price and the assumptions.
Cutting list CSVThe rod and each grinding pass, for the grinding floor.
DXF and STEPThe profile as line work, and the tool as solid geometry for CAD.

A document uses one of your plan's monthly exports and a little of your monthly usage. Saving costs nothing. More in Drawings and exports.

Put it on the quote

  1. Step 1.

Read the Quote draft at the foot of the answer. The endmill is a Design configured line priced on your rates; a line with an open question reads Needs information.

  2. Step 2.

Check the customer, then press Create quote. The quote opens in /app/quotes with the design and its price carried across.

The price is never a figure the AI produced: it comes from the design module's rates. See Quotes and orders from a request.

The design module covers endmills and form cutters. Drills, reamers and countersinks are not built yet.
