Finding things fast
Search everything from one box and jump anywhere with the command palette.
Two tools cover navigation: the command palette for actions and jumps, and search in the main menu for looking across all your records at once.
The command palette
Press Cmd K (Ctrl K on Windows) anywhere in the app. The palette offers actions such as New request and New quote, navigation to any area and entity search across your records. It is keyboard navigable end to end and remembers your recent searches.
Search in the menu
Press Search in the main menu and the row becomes a text box in place, with everything below it replaced by live results as you type: products, quotes, orders, customers, service items and requests, grouped by type with a link into each area pre-filtered to your term. The arrow to the left of the box takes you back to the menu.
There is one search interface, not two. The old /app/search address still works and opens the menu search rather than a page of its own.
The catalogue has its own richer browse with facets and typed filters under Products, then Catalogue; see Schemas and fields for how facets are defined. Serial search accepts scanner input directly, so scanning a docket finds the item.
Which one to reach for
They overlap on purpose, but they are good at different things.
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Get somewhere, or start something | The command palette. It is faster than the menu and it does not need your hands to leave the keyboard. |
| Find one record when you half remember it | The command palette, which searches entities as you type. |
| See everything matching a term across the business | Search in the menu, which groups by type so you can see that a customer, two quotes and a service item all mention it. |
| Browse the catalogue by attribute | Products, then Catalogue, where the facet rail filters on your own typed fields. |
| Find a physical item | Scan it. The serial search accepts scanner input directly. |
Why search is grouped rather than ranked
A single ranked list would put a quote above a customer above a product on grounds nobody could explain, and would bury the one type you were actually after. Grouping by type keeps each kind of record visible and lets you jump into that area pre-filtered when the top few are not enough.
Help
The profile popout at the bottom of the sidebar holds Settings, Support, Docs, the theme switch and log out. Open Docs for this documentation or Support to ask a question, and replay the product tour from the help menu whenever you need a reminder.
