A dimension label is the same size on a 12 mm endmill and a three metre balustrade
The labels on a design module's 3D view were sized by the inverse of the part, so a small tool drew them at twice their type size and a long run would have drawn them under a pixel. They now read the same on both.
21 September 2026. Found by opening the solid carbide endmill module and looking at it, which is how the last three defects in this module were found as well.
The labels on the model
- Every dimension label on a design module's 3D view carried a fixed scaling factor, and the scaling a factor gives is divided by how far away the camera is. The camera is parked to fit the part, so a small part put the camera close and blew the labels up, and a large part pushed it back and shrank them away.
- On a 12 mm endmill that drew four labels at twice their type size, piled on each other and on the tool. On a three metre balustrade the same labels would have drawn at well under a pixel.
- The factor is now derived from the same radius the camera is fitted to, so a label reads at its authored size on any part and still grows and shrinks as you orbit in and out, which is what a label attached to geometry should do.
Smaller
- The machining tool selector's own copy carried four sentences with a comma before and, against the house rule. Corrected in the engine and in the seed, and pushed to the live preset.
- A wizard module can now be offered to a workspace without a preset install creating anything, through scripts/trial/enable-preset.ts, which refuses rather than recording an install it did not make.
