Solid carbide or PCD, for the same job
1.57.28See a milling job answered both ways, a solid carbide end mill and a PCD tipped one, ranked for the work and priced at your quantity.
Updated 31 October 2026
The machining tool selector now sets out both ways to make a milling tool on solid carbide: the solid carbide end mill and a PCD tipped end mill with the same diameter, shank and flutes. It ranks them for the job. PCD comes first on high silicon aluminium or when tool life comes first, carbide on wrought aluminium, and PCD is never offered for steel, stainless or cast iron, with the reason on the card.
Each card lists what that tool means for the job, every point with its source. Set a Tool preference to see your preferred family first wherever both suit, and a Quantity to price both designs through their design modules after See matches. One line then gives the ratio between the two prices, and Design this one opens either design with the geometry already set.
A question about a PCD end mill or cutter in the AI now points to the machining tool selector rather than the PCD saw blade wizard.
